How much will I save?

In general, your savings will be 50% - 85% over purchasing new tooling!  Savings on multiple pocket tooling or special tooling can exceed 95%!  GKI does offer special pricing on large quantities.

Prices do not vary dependent on amount of damage, as all tools – regardless of damage – follow the same 16-step process for tool repair.  Once a tool has been priced, you can expect all future orders to reflect that price.  Exceptions might be additional work to ground shanks, arbor holes, etc.

On your first order, we always put the order on hold for your price approval.  We’ll also be calling you on the first order, just to make sure we have all the information needed to proceed.  Future orders can be processed immediately if you so desire.

How long will it take for repair?

Standard turn around time is less than 4-weeks.  Rush service is available upon request, additional set up charges do apply:

  • 24-Hour Rush Service: 50% additional set up charge, $300.00 maximum per tool. Orders received by 10:00 am will be shipped the following business day, given that price approval, required parts & information (listed below) are provided by 10:00 am. Orders received after 10:00 am will be shipped in 2 business days. We recommend using guaranteed early-morning delivery service to ensure receipt before 10:00 am. Please call in advance so that we can prepare for the order and ensure prompt processing. In order to process your order on time, the following must be included with your rush shipment:
    • Full set of components (shim seats, inserts, screws, pins, clamps, etc.).
    • Tool blue prints (if available).
    • Name and phone number of person(s) to whom technical questions should be directed.
  • One-Week Rush Service:  25% additional set up charge.  $150.00 maximum per tool.

Please state on packing slip what type of rush service is required and how you would prefer the order is shipped back to you (FedEx, UPS, Saturday delivery, am delivery, etc.)

What about QUALITY? Will the repaired tools perform?

At GKI, we take extra care to make sure your tool looks like a brand new tool.  However, our beauty is more than skin deep.  At GKI your repaired tools are guaranteed to perform the same as a brand new tool.  We accomplish this with our exclusive 16-step repair process:

  • Tools are repaired using weld & steel identical to that of the original parent material.
  • Unlike other repair sources that merely “patch up” the damage, tools at GKI are completely remanufactured using the latest 5-Axis & 4-Axis machining centers.  Regardless of the amount of damage, insert pockets, coolant holes and screw holes are completely re-cut into “virgin” material.
  • Tools are returned to their original print specifications.  When prints are not available, GKI will reverse engineer the tooling using the latest 6-Axis CMM and 3-D modeling technology.
  • Unlike other repair sources, GKI returns all tools to their original Rockwell (Rc) hardness.  This ensures that the tool will last as long as a new tool.
  • To protect against rust and corrosion, tools are black oxided using the same Hot-Oxide process used by the OEM.  With oxide thickness of .000020 inch (0.5 micron), the same as the original tool, the black oxide does not affect dimension.
  • Tools are laser marked with the tool number and all other customer specified information.  In addition, GKI records the number of repairs performed on each tool and quality data for absolute traceability throughout GKI’s 16-step repair process.

Can GKI modify tooling?

GKI does offer tool modification services.  In fact, GKI takes a very proactive roll in looking for ways of improving your tooling and reducing breakage. In many cases it is quicker and more cost effective to incorporate tool design changes into existing tooling, rather than building from scratch.

Whether you want to reduce tool breakage, or you require specific tool design changes, just call our Customer Service staff for assistance.

Is hardware supplied with the tools?

GKI can supply new components and fully assemble your tools with new hardware, at an additional charge.  Please contact our Customer Service staff for more information or a complete catalog of tool components available.  If you desire, you may send in components (shim seats, pins, screws, clamps, etc.) for all tools and they will be assembled for you at no additional charge.  Components received in damaged tools must be removed during GKI’s repair process.  Any such components that are received broken or which break during removal cannot be returned to the customer.  Good components will be returned to the customer as the repaired tools ship.

Are blueprints necessary?

Back to FAQ’s

If you are sending in standard catalog tooling a print is not necessary.  GKI maintains OEM specifications on all major brand tooling. While we would prefer blueprints on special tooling, we recognize that they are often not available.  GKI will reverse-engineer tools in order to determine the necessary dimensions and tolerances.  Occasionally, we may request a sample new tool if a tool is too badly damaged for reverse-engineering.  We do require a full set of components (screws, pins, shim seats, clamps and inserts) for blueprint tooling.

Do I need to apply for credit?
