How is a custom tool order processed?

To initiate a custom tool inquiry, please call our customer service staff at 888-GKI-TOOL, or submit the Custom Tool Inquiry form.

Upon receiving your inquiry, GKI will provide a quote with a written description of the tool.  Concept drawings are not provided until after a purchase order has been received.

Upon receipt of your purchase order, GKI will provide an approval drawing.  Occasionally, extensive design issues are resolved in a collaborative effort between GKI’s tool engineering staff and your engineering staff. 

Tool production will begin only after final drawings have been signed off (indicating your approval).  Quoted delivery time pertains to the time from final drawing approval.

Special tool quotations are generally completed within 2 days.  However, depending on the complexity of the tool, special hardware or insert sourcing, special fixturing, or outside services, quotes can be delayed by as much as 10 days – if so, you will be advised in advance of any such delay.

In general, the normal delivery time of the tooling is 6 to 10 weeks upon receipt of purchase order, but this can vary depending on the style of tooling being built.  Rush service is available on some tools, with delivery as quick as 1 to 2 weeks.  Additional rush charges apply; please inquire with your our customer service representative.

What warranty is provided on custom tooling?

Custom tools are guaranteed to adhere to all print requirements and geometries. 

Any changes required after approval or delivery as a result of incorrect print(s), would be chargeable as a modification or rebuild. 
Given a multitude of factors related to insert usage, equipment condition, workholding, material being cut, etc., specific performance parameters are not guaranteed by GKI unless provided in writing in advance. 

Is a concept drawing provided?

If you provide an approved drawing, no further concept drawing will be provided, thus minimizing your cost. 

If GKI is designing the tool, a concept drawing will be provided after receipt of a purchase order.  If a purchase order is cancelled after a concept drawing has been provided, there will be a minimum print charge of $300.00. 

Is all hardware included?

All custom tools come completely assembled with new hardware, not including indexable inserts (if applicable), unless stated otherwise on the quote.

Do I need to apply for credit?

Credit for custom tooling is extended based on past payment history or size of initial order.  GKI accepts Visa, Master Card and American Express.  GKI’s Federal Tax ID number 36-2753699.

Terms are net 30 days, FOB, Crystal Lake, Illinois.
